4 But God, with the unfathomable richness of His love and mercy focused on us,
Two small words that shook my world.
My life was a mess: filled with anger, bitterness, regret, apathy, hopelessness – BUT GOD loved me. Despite the sin, despite my lack of worthiness, despite the mess He loved me.
Against all odds He transformed me and continues to transform me. I fail continually to live up to my aspirations, my hopes, my dreams BUT GOD perseveres with me.
The unfathomable riches of His love and mercy are infused into those two words. I can’t understand – as I have said many many times right here in this blog – how He continues to love me without limit when I mess up day after day BUT GOD does just that. I make the same mistakes day after day BUT GOD continues to forgive me and give me a fresh start.
That unfathomable love and mercy are focused on me, like twin spotlights highlighting me, reminding me in each moment of His inexpressibly fabulous, inconceivably sufficient love and mercy. Not so that I walk weighed down with His expectations of me BUT I walk in the freedom and joy of a God who loves me despite everything. I’m a frail, fallible mortal BUT GOD (who knows that) provides hope and joy and peace for my life.
Stop and look at your life. See where ‘BUT GOD’ can give you that same freedom, that overwhelming joy and that unshakable peace. He can – doesn’t matter what you’ve done because He’s more than any situation we face. The unfathomable richness of His love and mercy are focused on you too.
