April 21 – Not About Falling


So be very careful to love the Lord your God. (Joshua 23:11)

Relate: There’s a consistently used quote that has seen an abundance of variations, “You can’t help falling in love. It just happen.” One of those variations comes from Nancy Ann Healy: “Love is like an undertow. You can fight it with every ounce of energy you have; it is far more powerful than you, and it inevitably sweeps you under.” In My Sister’s Keeper, Jodi Picoult talks about that “undertow” this way: “The bottom line is that we never fall for the person we’re supposed to.” There’s a problem with this concept of love which is best explained by Yakov Smirnoff: “Falling in love is a chemical reaction. But it wears off in about a year.”
