Pure in Heart

I was reading Tozer this morning and he was talking about what we can actually know of an infinite, transcendent God. He said that what we can know about God is revealed in creation, in Scripture and in Jesus – the Incarnation of His Word, and knowing Him through those things requires study and time and effort. He ended with Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.

Matthew 5:8

The verse wouldn’t let go, I pondered it and went back to the two blogs I already wrote about it. I’m linking them here so you can join me in the ponder.

Unpacking

We long for pure water and bemoan the fact that a huge portion of humanity can’t get it. We love pure mountain air – we’d bottle it if we could so we can have it in the midst of the city.

Purity is something we covet – pure silk, pure chocolate, pure gold – but not for our hearts?

Create in me a clean heart, O God;
    restore within me a sense of being brand new.

Psalm 51:10

That clean heart enables us to come into a relationship with Him. The pure heart comes from seeking to know Him, learning about Him so that we recognise Him and see Him.
