Feel the Light

I am not big on fashion, anyone who knows me can tell you that. I don’t know what’s trendy and what is out. I don’t browse what’s on the catwalk to decide what to buy though I do like to look at the mannequins in store because they give me ideas. I can get a bit picky about what J-Lo wears on American Idol, I do not need to see all that flesh… But in this video I loved the dress. I won’t spoil it, go watch for a couple of minutes.

See the heavens displayed on the screen that was her dress? Bet you thought it was ingenious right? First of its kind.

Not so.

The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment;
    he stretches out the heavens like a tent

Psalm 104:2

My God is big on light. The first words uttered in the Universe were about light and He hasn’t stopped focusing on light from that day to this. Light is associated with good and darkness with evil. Jesus was the Light of the World and He said that so are we. Think about how you feel on a sunny day, when you can feel the heat of the sun on your skin, the sky clear blue and the light glorious. It makes us feel amazing like anything is possible. When the clouds gather, when the light becomes grey we don’t feel as good, it’s dismal and infects us with that same misery.

The good news is that we don’t have to rely on the sun and sky for our moods. The light of God constantly shines on us, in us, through us. He is the Father of Lights and all good and perfect things come from Him. Better still He is not changeable like the weather, He is God, unchanging and constant!

 So, my very dear friends, don’t get thrown off course. Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. He brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures.

James 1:16-18 The Message

I want to encourage us today to let that light drench us, clothe us, fill us so that we really are the Light of the World no matter what situation or circumstance we face. He is constant, He is unchanging, He is our Father and He loves us with an eternal, unending and unquenchable love. That means it never ever stops. The world is desperate for a love like that – that is evident in the restless consuming destructive patterns we see all around us. We have that love. We have what every heart longs for.
